I did a lot of research for a new AA battery charger. The feature list of some of these were quite large. But at the end of the day I wanted something simpler. Here was my list:
-Charges AA batteries
-Charges each cell independently
-Can discharge batteries
-Portable
-Simple
-Can condition batteries
-Report on the capacity of the battery
This charger has all that I need without a bunch of features I knew I would never use. It has worked well for me, even bringing back older batteries that needed a little help by running a charge-discharge-charge cycle on them. It is a little annoying to have to push the button a bunch of times but its not that big of a deal.
If you need a simple, high quality AA battery charger, look no further!

I use the bc 1000 for myself but had often wished one could set default charging rates for use by the technically challenged. When I needed a charger for my Grandsons to use this one fit the bill perfectly with a nice medium charging current and no skill needed.

This blue charger has exceeded my expectations. I wanted a charger that was a step above the basic chargers and this one delivers. It can charge AA and AAA rechargeables individually in each slot, and shows you data on the battery and charging time! I haven't had any problems with it, but I have only used name-brand rechargeable batteries so far (Eneloop, Duracell, and the like).
In the grand scheme of things this is probably an intermediate level charger. If you are a power user (pardon the double power pun), there are more advanced and expensive models with more features.
On the other hand, if you are trying to decide whether to get this (or a charger with similar features) versus one of the basic chargers with just charging lights and no additional information, you do get practical benefits with a charger like this.
